If you want to be notified whenever a thread is started in a particular forum or when there's been a reply to a particular thread, you can "subscribe" to a forum and/or thread.  For example, if you want to be notified every time there's a new topic in "Heads Up!" or the New York City Ballet subforum, or the first entry in each day's "Links," you can be notified when this happens, via email or My Controls.

To do so is very simple:

1.  To be notified when a new topic has opened in a forum:

a.  Go to the forum (or subforum).
b.  In the upper right corner, across from the forum title, click Forum Options.
c.  Select the last option, Subscribe to this forum.
d.  Choose a subscription notification option (see below)
e.  Confirm selection

Please note:  Be sure to subscribe to a subforum if you want to be notified about new topics on a specific company, ballet, blog, etc.  These are identified as "Subforums" on the main page.  If you subscribe to the top forum -- ex:  "American Ballet Companies" instead of "New York City Ballet," you'll be notified about the rare new topics that are posted to the high-level forum only.


2a.  To be notified when a reply has been made to the forum:

a.  Open the thread.
b.  In the upper right corner, across from the forum title, click Options.
c.  Select the last option in the first section, above "Display options," Subscribe to this forum.
d.  Choose a subscription notification option (see below)
e.  Confirm selection.

2b.  Alternately, if you are get email notification for new topics posted to a forum or subforum and want Delayed Emailed Notification, there will be a link to subscribe to the thread in the email.  By clicking on the link, you will be subscribed to the thread and will navigate directly to the thread, if you are logged in.


Notification Options:

There are five options, all explained on the sign-up screen:

a.  No Email Notification
This option will not send out any email notification but will retain the topic or forum in your subscriptions panel.

b. Delayed Emailed Notification
This option will send out a notification if a new topic or reply has been made and you're not active on the board.

c.  Immediate Email Notification
This option will send out a notification immediately after a new topic or reply has been made regardless of your activity.

The word "immediate" is often accurate, but sometimes a liberal interpretation.

d.  Daily Email Digest
This option will send out a daily digest showing all new replies or topics for that day

e.  Weekly Email Digest
This option will send out a weekly digest showing all new replies or topics for that week

4.  Changing Options and Tracking Subscriptions:

Subscriptions can be reviewed and notifications changed and cancelled from My Controls:

a. From Menu on the left menu, under Subscriptions, click
View Topics or
View Forums
-->The notification type will be displayed under each thread.  (If you click on the thread name, you will navigate to that thread.)
b. To change the notification type, click the little box to the right of each topic you want to change to the same option.
c.  Select the option from the drop-down box.  Options are:
Unsubscribe
Each of the five notification options
e.  Confirm selection.
