She had started her career in 1939, aged 15, with the Ballets de Monte-Carlo.

She played in quite a lot of films, including "The red shoes":

Tcherina's last prominent film role was as the dramatic and dance lead in Raymond Rouleau's abortive attempt to bring ballet to a feature-film audience, The Lovers of Teruel, choreography by Milko Sparemblek, 1962.

Shealso had a good role in the film "The Tales of Hoffman"--and I seem to recall a scene she had with Massine in "Red Shoes".

she would be the ballerina who breaks out of giselle's 2nd act entrance to announce "i'm getting married!" a very glamorous woman.

She had a substantial supporting role in "The Red Shoes" --as pmeja notes, she played the prima who leaves the company to marry, thus creating an opening for Moira Shearer's heroine. And yes, she looked very chic, too. smile.gif
