A European friend of mine telephoned to say that the 3rd annual Nijinsky Awards (the 'Oscars' of ballet) were held in Monte Carlo on Dec 18, with the following winners:
Ballerina of the Year: Alina Cojocaru
Danseur of the Year: Nicholas Le Riche
Choreographer of the year: William Forsythe for the work "Deconstruction"
Emerging Choreographer: Shen Wei (Chinese-Am. chor'er based in NYC) for his version of "Le Sacre du Printemps"
Many ballet 'VIPs' participated, including Suzanne Farrell, acc'dg to my friend.
What's the chance that PBS may someday pick-up this telecast?
