A friend of mine invited me to come visit here in St Petersburg and so after a bit of thinking i decided to go. She persuaded me to go by getting us tickets to Jewels (July 14) and The Stars of the White Nights Closing Night (Scheherazade, Firebird, Chopiniana). My friend will be showing me around a bit and perhaps even arranging for some class, but i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me about things to see/go to. I'm also looking at going to Moscow for a couple of days and to try to catch Don Q at Bolshoi (the Osipova show is sold out but i'm thinking of buying tix to Maria Alexandrova's show).
thx

Lucky you are to go there! The city is absolutely amazing and gorgeous!!!!! I'm a bit envious!... So I advise you to hop out at subway station Gorkovskaya and on foot move to the Nevsky it means that you should go along Kamennoostrovsky avenue, then cross the Troitsky bridge (terrific view from that bridge - Petropavlovskaya fortress, Vasilievsky island, Zimnij Palace...) So you cross the river along the Troitsky bridge and you are against the Marsovo Pole - a large square full of greenery, where some youth lay on the grass if the weather is hot. If you don't approach Marsovo Pole and turn to the right immediately after the bridge, you'll go along the embankment watching all the famous buildings, first the Mramornyj Palace, then the buildings of Zimni Palace... Oh!! That's so much to write and I believe this is a bit off topic, so if you wanna some precise advice mail me singing_medora@yahoo.com I know SPb very well and can give a lot of advice where to dine, where to shop, where to have a promenade!
