Does anyone recognize this dancer? There are several photos of her on Life's collection of photos on Google. She faintly resembles a teacher of mine, but only faintly... still, I'm wondering...

Certainly. It's Renee (Zizi) Jeanmaire and it looks as if she's wearing one of the costumes from Carmen.

The other photos on the page appear to be from Petit's "Ballets Des Champs Elysees". (or maybe it was called 'Ballet de Paris' at the time ??) There is a stunning photo of Colette Marchand (in an elaborate black headdress from a ballet , I guess, called 'L'Oeuf a la Cocque' ??' ) and Jeanmaire is in the background. Further along there is a lovely photo of Moira Shearer.
