Decca will be releasing MacMillan's Romeo and Juliet, starring Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta, on DVD and Blu-ray on August 25. Amazon is taking pre-orders.

Does anyone know what happened with this title, I had placed it in my wish list to purchase later and now Amazon is showing the DVD release date as December 31, 2020

That is peculiar. The title has also disappeared from British, French, German and Japanese Amazon. It's still listed for release on August 25 on Canadian Amazon, so hopefully that odd new release date is just a typo.

For what it's worth, the booklet to the Mariinsky's new 'Don Quixote' lists 'Romeo and Juliet' among other Decca ballet releases.

I think that is the default date when there is no date. I would guess that they removed the original date and haven't updated it with the new one, and that the update to "blank" was done through a feed process.

What is even stranger, now that the release date is gone they release the artwork for the dvd.

Is Decca under Opus Arte? I thought OA was owned by the ROH (or whoever is over them) and usually releases RB dvds? Let's see what happens in a few weeks.

I believe Acosta has an exclusive contract with Decca.

FYE shows the 8-25-09 release date for the Blu-ray and a date of 9-29-09 for DVD. Amazon still hasn't updated with a release date but hopefully this means decca decided to delay a month on the dvd.

The American release date has been revised to September 29, 2009 on Amazon.com, and orders can once again be placed.
