A review of Alabama Ballet in the great outdoors by Michael Huebner in The Birmingham News' blog.

The weekend shows have become more than a workshop. Though lacking sets, they are performances designed to come close to a final product, complete with costumes. That only three intense rehearsal days are allotted is all the more remarkable.

On Friday, 10 dancers provided snippets of the coming season and past and future works on the covered outdoor stage. Classic steps from "Raymonda" revealed the title character, danced by Jenna McKerrow Wilson, as a flighty, fickle doll. Brandon Ragland partnered with knightlike chivalry and an impressive array of leaps in the finale.

A report on the Arts in Crisis touring program featuring Michael Kaiser by Steven Brown in The Charlotte Observer.

QUOTE
Kaiser is sometimes called the turnaround king because he has rescued cultural groups with money troubles. He's sharing his experiences through a 50-state tour sponsored by the Kennedy Center. He addressed Charlotte arts leaders Friday at Booth Playhouse, about 20 cities into his itinerary.

“Every community thinks they're different,” Kaiser said. “And the problems are always the same.”
